The show sold out as soon as it opened for sale in many venues. The band were a reggae band with British influence. They were very popular during the 1980s. They became popular worldwide with their first hit, Roxanne. Later they went on to have many hits such as Message In A Bottle, Don't Stand So Close to Me, and Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic. One of the band member called Sting chased a Solo career in 1984. They performed their last concert together in 1986. Since that time, their fans and the entire music industry has been waiting for them to reunite. The band reunited in the year 2007 to perform at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards. They also announced that they will be taking a World tour together in 2007-2008, and will also play at the Live Earth concert in July 2007.

There was no official announcement of any split in the band. Every band member chased his own solo career. In June 1986, all three of them performed in three concerts for the Amnesty International A Conspiracy of Hope Tour. In July of the same year, a very brief reunion in the studio produced only restrained re-recordings of "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da". The former song was released in October 1986 as their final performance together in the form of "Don't Stand So Close To Me '86". The number appeared on the collection Every Breath You Take: The Singles, and made to the UK Top 25. By this time, it became quite evident that Sting had no intent of carrying on with the band. He already had a successful solo career. He had released his solo album 1985, the jazz-influenced The Dream of the Blue Turtles.

In the initial months of 2007, reports came that the band would reunite again for a World tour to mark their 30th anniversary, though they had split in 1986. The concerts were supposed to happen along with Universal Music re-releasing certain material from the band's catalog. On January 22nd 2007, the magazine called Side-Line published the news that The Police would reunite for the Grammys. They will perform their hit number "Roxanne". The magazine also informed that the band were to go on a huge tour covering all cities all over the world. As informed, The Police opened the 49th Annual Grammy Awards on 11 February 2007 in Los Angeles, California with "Roxanne." The band opened their Reunion Tour in Vancouver on May 28 amidst 22,000 enchanted fans. The Police tickets sold out were high in demand.
