CLASSIC COMEDY OF MANNERS!

The Manhattan Theatre Club presents The Royal Family this fall season at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The comedy begins previews on September 15, 2009 with an official start date of October 8, 2009. If you’re coming to NYC this fall you won’t want to miss this hysterical take on one family’s hectic life in show business.

This classic 1927 comedy of manners follows the Cavendish’s a famous family of stage stars. The story centers in on the daily dramas the family faces throughout the day; choosing scripts, running off to performances and establishing relationships. But what will happen to this theatrical family when the younger Miss Cavendish wants to quit the stage for marital bliss? Not going to happen if the rest of the family has any say. What will she decide; her family’s livelihood or a shot at her own happiness?

This clever show was written by the brilliant writing team of George S. Kaufman and Edna Herber and is being directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes. The show features a cast of seventeen talented and accomplished actors. Leading of that ensemble is Broadway alum and Saturday Night Live veteran Ana Gasteyer in the role of Kitty Dean. Her Broadway credits include Wicked and The Rocky Horror Show. She is best known for her six season stint on SNL and has appeared in such films as: What’s the Worse that Could Happen and The Women. In the role of Herbert Dean is veteran stage, television and film actor. His Broadway credits include The Drowsy Chaperone and Waiting for Godot for which he received a 2009 Tony Award nomination. His television credits include guest roles in Frasier, Murder She Wrote, South Beach and Smallville. The show also stars two time Tony award nominee and seasoned stage actor Tony Roberts. He most recently appeared on Broadway in last year’s production of Xanadu, but has also appeared in Cabaret, Victor/Victoria and Barefoot in the Park.

The Manhattan Theatre Club seems to have a knack for choosing solid productions that are well written and performed, and are always entertaining. The Royal Family is no exception. This is sure to be a fun, enjoyable theater experience. The Royal Family tickets are on sale now for this witty, light hearted comedy. Don’t miss this one!
