Broadway Musical - (comedy)

History :: Now Playing :: Schedule :: Reviews

This heartwarming new two character musical opened on Broadway this February at the Booth Theatre. The Story of My Life is a tribute to a lifelong friendship and explores the meaning of what certain people can mean to one another. This ninety minute production with no intermission is pretty low key and is coming to the New York scene unlike other shows virtually unknown. Its success will truly depend on the audience’s word of mouth.

This show is an inspirational, funny and deeply moving tale of friendship and what it can sometimes cost us especially if we lose it. The musical explores the relationship between two men, Thomas and Alvin, who have somehow taken a wrong turn and ended up parting ways. Thomas, a bestselling, award-winning author calls on the only thing he has to figure out what went so terribly wrong; his stories of Alvin throughout the years that detail their relationship It is a tale of the bonds of friendship and explores how far those bonds will take us if we are willing to go.

The Story of My Life debuted in 2006 at Toronto’s Canadian Stage Company but has since been revised for the Broadway stage. The music and lyrics were written by Neil Bartram with a book by Brian Hill. It is being directed by Tony Award winning director Richard Maltby, Jr. (Fosse, Ain’t Misbehavin’).The production stars Will Chase as Thomas Weaver and Malcolm Gets in the role of Alvin Kelby. Chase is no stranger to Broadway and has earned praise from both audiences and critics alike for his starring roles in such productions as Rent, Aida, Miss Saigon, The Full Monty and Lennon. Gets made his Broadway debut in 1995 in The Moliere Comedies and has also starred in Amour. He has had roles in such television series as Caroline in the City and Law and Order. He also recently appeared in the much anticipated 2008 film Sex and the City.

This fresh, endearing musical is a welcomed addition to the Broadway season. It is a fun story that carries throughout it a universal theme that all of us can relate to. It is a tribute to all of those who have profoundly changed our lives forever. If you are looking for an enjoyable, refreshing night at the theater then this is the one for you!
