Discounted Tickets For Broadway Shows

Theaters on Broadway, including those known as Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theaters have become so popular over the years that vacationers and those on a short term business visit to New York are keen to squeeze in at least one show during their stay. The increasing costs of production of mainstream plays on Broadway due to the lavishness, and the presence of many top Hollywood stars in Broadway productions also adding to their production costs, the seats for Broadway shows are exorbitant.

However, with a little research on your part, you may be able to purchase discounted prices for Broadway shows of your choice.

Broadway, The Less Expensive Way

The easiest way to procure seats for Broadway shows of your choice is through the box office of the theaters. However, though they can be available at face value, they are still quite expensive. You can still try to get discounted seating for Broadway shows through the box office itself. Such discounts could be as much as 50 percent:

Reserved Tickets – Certain - that have been reserved on behalf of actors or other patrons for their guests who do not turn up, or cancel - may be available at the Box Office. Such seats for Broadway shows can be available at very reasonable prices, and these could be for great seats.

Discount Codes - These are secret codes and are given out by the theaters for marketing purposes. If you are able to obtain the code, you could avail of between 25 percent to 60 percent discount on the face value.

Partial View Tickets – Most theaters have certain seats that obstruct a clear view of the stage – due to the scenery, or props, or the columns, etc. Such seats are usually right at the front or the sides of the orchestra. Such partial view seats are available at huge discounts, if you are ready to forgo a piece of the action at some particular spot on the stage.

Rush Tickets – These can be obtained on the day of the show, and are released about two hours or so before the start of the performances. They are given out at the box office as a lottery. If you get lucky and win the lottery, these are available at a heavy discount for cash only, and cost around $25 to $45.

Students Rush Tickets – These seats for Broadway shows are ideal for students. These are available on the day of the performance and given out to students on the production of IDs. Each student can purchase two seats and each can cost between $20 and $25.

Standing Room Only (SRO) Tickets – Opting for Standing Room Only is another way of obtaining discounted tickets for Broadway shows. You will have to watch the whole show standing up. However, the view to the stage will be clear, with no obstructions. These are quite inexpensive and may cost a mere $20, even for the top Broadway show.
