Wicked was nominated for ten Tony Awards in 2004, of which it won three, for:
Best Leading Actress in a Musical (Idina Menzel) – as Elphaba, Wicked Witch of the WestBest Scenic Design (Eugene Lee)Best Costume Design (Susan Hilferty).
The other Tony Awards for which it was nominated, but did not win, were: Best Musical; Best Book of a Musical (Winnie Holzman); Best Leading Actress in a Musical (Kristin Chenoweth – as Glinda, the Good Witch of the North); Best Original Score (Stephen Schwartz); Best Lighting Design (Kenneth Posner); Best Choreography (Wayne Cilento); Best Orchestrations (William David Brohn).
In addition, Wicked – the musical has won six of the eleven nominations for Drama Desk Awards, along with four out of the ten nominations for the Outer Critics Circle Awards, for 2004. In 2004, Wicked has also won the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical; Eddy Award for Outstanding Costume Design (Susan Hilferty); and Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
In 2006, it won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actress, Non-Resident Production (Stephanie J. Block) and three Touring Broadway Awards for: Best New Musical; Best Musical Score (Stephen Schwartz); and Best Production Design (Eugene Lee, Susan Hilferty, Kenneth Posner).

Idina Menzel – She was the original Elphaba when Wicked opened on Broadway. Idina was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Supporting Actress in Rent on Broadway. She has also performed in Andrew Lippa’s version of “The Wild Party,” in the Encore’s production of “Hair,” and starred in “Aida” on Broadway.
Eugene Lee – In addition to Wicked, he has won two Tony Awards for Bernstein’s Candide, and Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. His other New York theatre work includes Alice in Wonderland, The Normal Heart, Agnes of God, Ragtime, Uncle Vanya, Ruby Sunrise, and A Number.
