Procuring seats for from the box office is becoming difficult, as the popularity of the show rises. The play is based on the blockbuster film of 1974 and is in the sinister Castle and the misty moors of Transylvania Heights. The songs are on the coarser side, but enjoyable. The songs include "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Putting On the Ritz." The play is based on a novel written by Mary Shelly. The novel has elements of Gothic novel as well as romanticism. The story has a profound influence on culture and literature. It ushered in a new genre of horror stories.

Mary Shelley completed writing her novel in May 1817. The book was first published in January 1818, by publishers Harding, Mavor & Jones. It was initially published anonymously, where the preface of the book was written by Percy Bysshe Shelley for Mary. Mary dedicated her book to Wlliam Godwin, her father. The book faced severe criticism from critics. But this did not reduce its popularity in any way. The second edition of the book was published on August 1823. This edition credited Shelly as the author.

Shelly wrote the novel, when the Industrial Revolution just started. This was a time of tremendous advancement in technology and science. The fact that in the novel, the creature rebels against his creator, is the warning sign that science can have far reaching consequences, in the negative sense too. Shelly’s work has got profound influence of John Milton's Paradise Lost as well as Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Marine. The novel includes references to Mary’s mother and her work A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. The character of Frankenstein also derives references Humphry Davy’s Elements of Chemical Philosophy.
