War Horse Tickets
Powerful New Play Heads To Broadway!War Horse tickets are available for all performances of this powerful new Broadway play. The Vivian Beaumont Theater is home to a talented cast which brings Michael Morpurgo novel to life on the stage. Under the direction of Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris first previews began on March 15, 2011 with an official opening night scheduled for April 14. "War Horse" will soon be adapted into a film by Steven Spielberg, but now is your chance to see the true magic the stage show portrays of this fascinating story.
The story was written for children and thus focuses on simple plot, characters and basic emotions. Do not be fooled, the somewhat plain plot delivers intense moments of heartbreak and is truly touching for the adult viewer. The main character Albert, played wonderfully by Seth Numrich, is a sensitive young boy. His father Ted purchases a colt at auction, turning "Joey" into a dray horse and eventually sells him to the British cavalry. Albert who had built a strong friendship with Joey soon enlists into the infantry and makes his way to France. The young boy crosses many battlefields of World War 1 in search of his horse. After four years of searching Albert finds Joey, who is no longer in shape to handle his duties as a war horse and about to be put down.
The simple story is not intended as an anti-war piece of animal right's agenda. The story focuses on the brutally painful lessons a boy must learn and then unlearn from his father. While Spielberg's film adaptation will use real animals the Broadway play uses puppets fabricated with wood, mesh and metal. Three human puppeteers operate Joey (as well as three puppeteers for each horse) and add a haunting yet artistic touch to the work. War Horse tickets provide the audience with the ability to become emotionally attached to the horse as if it was real, the creative masterminds of the Handspring Puppet Company do an amazing job.
The bright Broadway stage of the Vivian Beaumont Theater goes through a transformation at the hands of the scenic designer Rae Smith. The lush green English countryside landscape gives way to the blood stained battlefields of France which Joey and is comrades must navigate. The war horses suffer at the hands of the most devastating modern artillery, including machine guns and tanks. The true horrid sounds of war are presented to the viewer in a raw form. Though based on a story for children this play is so articulated that it rips your heart out with it's haunting sounds and visions.
Over 8 million horses were killed in the battles of World War 1 or else sold to the butchers of France. While the powerful play has no agenda towards some moral lesson of that fact it becomes difficult not to develop feelings for the animals and their suffering at the hands of the brutality of man. Though only puppets their hearts and courage are on full display as well as the fears they face. War Horse tickets provide a fascinating story which comes to life through its artistic and creative use of puppets, sounds, landscapes and emotions.
War Horse originated at the National Theater in London and received a positive response during Broadway previews. The play was scheduled for a limited run with a June 26 closing date. The Lincoln Center has now extended the production due to the overwhelming positive reviews and strong ticket sales at the box office. Make sure to take in a performance of this magnificent new Broadway play before it is too late!
