Classic Foreign Comedy Takes The Stage!

Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown tickets for the new Broadway musical adaptation came to life on November 4, 2010. The stage show is based on the extremely successful Pedro Almodovar 1988 film. The frenetic musical comedy is playing at the 1002 seat Belasco Theatre for a limited run, set to close on January 23, 2011. Previews had been running since October 2 and the critical response after opening night have been strong.

The stage is set in Madrid, Spain as the audience is introduced to the many characters. Each has their own stories of love and deception which intertwine throughout the show. In the center of the madness comes Pepa a voice-over actress, played wonderfully by Sherie Rene Scott. Pepa learns of her lover Ivan's interest in a younger woman, a lawyer named Paulina. When Ivan's desires to pursue his new love interest further a love triangle of epic proportions is created. Matters only become more entangled as Paulina's client and Ivan's long vengeful ex-wife Lucia enters the picture. Sure this is enough of a plot that one can see where all the madcap misadventures take off from, but there is more. Throw into the frenzy Pepa's close friend Candela and her Arab boyfriend, who she worries maybe a terrorist. Then enter Lucia and Ivan's son Carlos' fiancée Marisa and a taxi driver for good measure.

The group of characters, scenarios and twists does not stop or even slow down for a minute. A fast paced feverish joyride as the viewers watches all the wrong people look for love in all the wrong places. Who would have ever thought that love in 1980's Madrid could be so complicated? However, as complicated as the story and characters are there are some great jokes and songs throughout. Patti LuPone's first solo could be marked as perhaps one of the biggest highlights. Certainly, one of the draws for people to purchase Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown tickets. Nevertheless, because of the pace of the show the moment becomes all too quickly glanced over. This point seems to be the cause for the many mixed reviews being scrawled from respected critics. While the show is being critiqued for its face pace, which does not lend itself for story, character and comedic development. Still others may argue the musical is trying to create the franticness of the situation for the viewer. Whether or not this works or not will be decided by the individual, the adaptation tries to stay true to Mr. Almodóvar’s writing and directorial style.

Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown tickets provide non-stop action, comedy, songs and excitement. They also bring a star studded and talented cast to the stage, including the aforementioned Patti LuPone at the top of the marquee. Other cast members include Sherie Rene Scott, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Danny Burstein, Mary Beth Peil, Justin Guarini. A book by Jeffrey Lane and the songs of David Yazbek, Bartlett Sher (South Pacific) directs. Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown tickets are running between $35 to $125 at the box office. The 4 week preview period grossed $1,448,422, showing strong early interest in this new production. With the commercial success of the original film Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown is sure to gain a solid audience.
