This season, Broadway is already abuzz with people wanting to get their hands on tickets. The show has created a huge sense of excitement and anticipation, as everyone waits for what funnyman Mel Brooks has up his sleeve for this musical.

Part of the reason for the huge demand for Young Frankenstein tickets is Brooks himself. The musical is based on his Oscar-nominated movie of the same name, which was co-written with comedy legend Gene Wilder. In true Brooks’s style, the musical pokes fun of every aspect of the original horror movie and the horror genre itself. With heavyweights like a Tony Award winning crew and actors like Andrea Martin, Roger Bart and Megan Mullally, it's safe to say that Young Frankenstein tickets are passes to the musical of the season.

Frankenstein the Brain Surgeon

Indeed, Brooks seems to have pulled all the stops out of this one, making the original ambitious Dr. Frankenstein into a New York brain surgeon, named Fredrick Frankenstein. Fredrick is engaged to the very tightly- wound Elizabeth and one day, he gets word that he has inherited a castle in Transylvania. Elizabeth sends him off, singing 'Please Don't Touch Me’, as he leaves for Europe.

When he arrives, Frederick meets a truly motley gang of people- Igor the henchman, Inga the buxom lab assistant and Frau Blucher the housekeeper. And of course, there is the monster himself, appropriately referred to as the Monster.

Quirks and Tunes

What then follows is an adventure into the world of Dr. Victor von Frankenstein, the man who left Fredrick the castle. One of the main reasons that there is such a rush for Young Frankenstein tickets is the songs- there are no fewer than 22 songs, which the cast almost spontaneously break into from time to time. When Fredrick first arrives, he learns about Frau Blucher's affair with Dr. Victor von Frankenstein via a memorable cabaret number called 'He Vas My Boyfriend.'

After finding the previous doctor's laboratory, Fredrick becomes committed to continuing his work. He successfully resurrects the Monster, despite the efforts of the village to spur the efforts of a recent spate of grave robbers. However, the Monster is soon brought to life, but not in the way you would expect. After going on a rampage, the Monster meets a blind hermit who softens his heart- so much so that the Monster soon makes an appearance on Broadway, singing "'Puttin On the Ritz'. In the meantime, Inga encourages Fredrick to do the right thing about the Monster and the two begin to get close. Enter Elizabeth, complete with an entourage- she is later kidnapped by the monster, but the two of them end up falling on love. At the end of the play, all's well with Inga getting engaged to Fredrick, the Monster proposing to Elizabeth and the blind hermit and Frau Blucher going on a blind date (of course).
