Your Welcome America A Final Night With George W Bush
A FAREWELL TO A PRESIDENT! Hollywood funnyman Will Ferrell makes his Broadway debut in a new one-man show that pays tribute (or not) to the outgoing Commander and Chief. You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush starring and written by Ferrell begins previews on January 20, 2009 (coinciding with the United States Presidential Inauguration and the last day for the current President) at the Cort Theatre with an official start date of February 5, 2009. HBO, one of the shows producers, will be airing a live broadcast of the production at a later determined date but will probably be shown toward the end of the shows run in mid March. After portraying Bush for many years on NBC’s Saturday Night Live Ferrell brings his spot-on interpretation to the stage and given his past performance this show has the promise to be one unforgettable evening at the theater. Ferrell got his start on SNL in 1995 and continued to appear until the 2002 season. During his seven year stint he created such memorable and original characters as Spartan Cheerleader Craig Buchannan and music teacher Marty Culp. He was also known for impersonating Robert Goulet, Neil Diamond, Ted Kennedy and Alex Trebek. He has appeared in 140 episodes of the popular skit show and during the 2001 season he became the highest paid cast member earning a season salary of $350,000. Ferrell has also experienced box-office success with such hit films as Step Brothers, A Night at the Roxbury, Elf and the musical film version of The Producers. He has received Golden Globe nominations for his roles in The Producers and Stranger Than Fiction. His talent for portraying extremely funny characters and doing remarkable uncanny impersonations seems to be unrivaled. He has already master live television and the big screen so Broadway should be a comfortable venue for him. You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush is being directed by Ferrell’s longtime comedy collaborator Adam McKay. The two have worked on such projects as The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Talladega Nights. This political satire is a rare opportunity to catch one of today’s funniest comedians doing what he does best. The show is on a strictly limited engagement and is scheduled to close on March 15, 2009. If comedy is your thing then don’t miss this show. It’s a once in a lifetime chance to hail to the chief!
