How The Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical, Is Here To Steal Your Heart!
No one can overlook the classic work of Dr. Seuss. His “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is matchless! It is a heart touching and humorous story of a greenish and mean cave creature, who hates celebrations and watching people make merry.
The story was first released as a book and later, was produced in a cartoon version for TV. It had songs that at once gained Yuletime standards. They included "Welcome, Christmas!" and "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch!" The movie version was produced by Ron Howard and released in 2000. Jim Carrey played the title role. Grinch is back once again with a stage musical version on Broadway. The book and lyrics are given by Timothy Mason and music is composed by Mel Marvin.
In the story, Grinch plans to spoil Who’s Christmas. He recruits his faithful dog, Max, to serve as the reindeer while he steals everyone’s Christmas gifts and decorations. It’s fun to watch the faithful dog do his duty, the warm-hearted citizens of Wholville, and the malevolent Grinch busy with his villainous tricks.
The musical contains hit numbers like “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” as well as “Welcome Christmas.” With a fabulous music, wonderful storyline, and beautiful sets, Broadway makes way for a new diva – a large, hairy, green creature!
Patrick Page, who plays Grinch, has done a wonderful job. Actually, he’s more adorable than frightening! As he remarks with a mean glee, “I love it when the little ones cry,” he points towards the audience. Instead of the general “boo’s” and other ghastly sounds produced by the villains in kids’ shows, our Grinch in Dr’ Seuss’s creation is a small-hearted creature. The only thing bad in him is his hatred towards Christmas.
The musical version of this story has a little change in the role of little Cindy Lou Who. In the book, this tiny tot has a brief appearance as the little girl, who sees the mean Grinch stealing her family’s Christmas tree. However, in the stage version, Cindy is shown to have an open heart. She is kind to the creature, which is a stranger and seems sad to her. To the audience’s surprise, she ends up being shrewder than what everyone expects!
Matt August has directed the musical and John DeLuca has choreographed it. The creator and supervisor is Jack O’Brien. The splendid work of John Lee Beatty and Robert Morgan has made this show look almost real on stage, as they design breath taking sets and costumes, respectively. The design team of this musical adheres to Dr’ Seuss’s theme of white, red, black, and a dash of pink for the scenes of Whoville. How The Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical Tickets
