New York Islanders Tickets
The Islanders, based in Uniondale, NY, play professional hockey in the Atlantic Division of the National Hockey League (NHL). Starting in the NHL in 1972, it soon became a dominant team in the league. In the early 1980s it won four consecutive Stanley Cups - the championship trophy of the NHL – for the 1979-80, 1980-81, 1981-82, 1982-83 seasons. It also has in its kitty three consecutive Prince of Wales Trophies - an NHL trophy awarded to the Eastern Conference (formerly the Wales Conference) playoff champions – for the 1982, 1983, and 1984 seasons.
From this time onwards, the Islanders have struggled to vie for the Stanley Cup, and have made several quick exits from the playoffs. The Islanders In Long Island
Along with the NHL, a new hockey team - the Islanders – came to Long Island. They had to pay $4 million as territorial fee to the long entrenched New York team – the Rangers. Since then, both the teams have been long standing rivals.
Their start was not impressive at all as they finished last in the 1972-73 season. 1975 was the year when they made an impressive turnaround. They earned 88 points, earned their first berth in the NHL playoffs, and stunned their rivals – the New York Rangers – in the first round best-of-three series. The next round was a bigger surprise. Three games to none down, they won the next four to win the best of seven against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In the third round, they nearly repeated the feat by coming up from three down to equal six games, and lost the seventh to the defending Stanley Cup champion Philadelphia Flyers. Honoring Their Greats
